"Do not train children to learn by force and harshness, but direct them to it by what appeals to their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each." - Plato
Renee Cugliotta is a unique teacher. She finds the "genius of each" child by bringing to the table a blend of common sense, certifications in special and elementary education, and gut instincts on what makes children "tick", a talent gained from raising her three children and homeschooling them as well. Her love of teaching started as a young child. It propelled her to go on to become a certified teacher, and later to receive certification in the Orton-Gillingham method.
Her teaching style is a blend of various proven multisensory methods, with its base primarily in the Wilson program. Latin and Greek roots are highlighted throughout the lessons so children gain an understanding of the structure of the English language.
Every student receives one-on-one instruction which is continually tailored to meet individual needs. This instruction is given in a sensitive manner that is respectful of any feelings of insecurity. Time-tested, proven methods soon yield a child who is an independent learner. As children are encouraged to believe in themselves, they soon come to realize that they too, have joined the ranks of Miss Renee’s long list of successful students.
"Today 69% of our school children score below grade level in reading. Research has shown whole language, the primary reading program for most American schools is ineffective." http://www.decs.sa.gov.au/northernadelaide/files/links/whole_language_high_jinks.pdf How To Know If Your Child Might be Part of the 69% Your child:
* in the early grades is encouraged to memorize lists of words.
* is told to try using different "strategies" to decode a word.
* may have used "inventive spelling" in the early grades and is now a poor speller.
* may read the first few letters of a word and guess at the rest.
* makes many substitutions and omissions when reading.
* confuses similar-looking words like barn and bran, for and from, and left and felt
* has had some phonics, but it was spotty, too little, and too late.
* does not know all of the letter sounds in isolation and how to blend them.

"When my 16 year old son first came to you, he could not read. I was at my wit’s end with his situation as his inability to read was affecting his entire education. He couldn’t read his schoolbooks or know when football practice was scheduled. Now, I am proud to say, that after passing the college entrance test on the first try, he is attending community college! Renee Cugliotta has turned my son’s life around!"
- Susan V., Cinnaminson,NJ
"My children love Miss Renee! After every lesson, her patience, humor, and understanding leave my children with a heightened sense of self-esteem."
- Marsha G., Marlton,NJ
"My daughter has been to some of the franchised tutoring centers. Although she made minimal progress, it was not until I brought her to Renee Cugliotta that she made true progress. Now she can independently read unknown words using what she has been taught, and not have to rely on useless reading strategies!." - Donna C., Delanco, NJ
